Undisclosed Share
The solution
The project Undisclosed Share was a combination of two project topics from Nokia. The goal was to create an easy way to share content instantly on the spot, and also to connect efficiently with your closest friends. Thus, Spubbler was born.
Spubbler is a mobile application focusing on picture sharing, allowing pictures to be uploaded to desired groups instantly after they had been taken. This group-based solution also makes sure that only the selected people are able to see the content, resolving possible privacy issues. However, the most innovative feature of Spubbler is the ability to create groups on the spot with a simple shake of the phone – people in the same area can shake their phones roughly at the same time, and the group will be formed.
The team
The team consisted of three people with various backgrounds: a project manager/designer, a server-side developer and a client-side developer. These titles were not specific, and the project members could work in pretty much any position. For example, everyone in the team was involved in user interface and user experience design as well as usability testing.
The project
The team first came up with the general concept, which was designed based on the initial project topics. The refining of the concept generated a lot of ideas, many of which were saved for the possible future development. The already-mentioned group forming by shaking the phone, however, truly set the direction for the application, which ultimately also led the team to win the best Nokia project award at the end of the summer.
The development of the application went fairly smoothly from the beginning to the end. First, only the core features were developed to make sure the application could be demonstrated, and after that some features and graphics were added and the user interface was finalized.
The future
At first, a rather polished prototype of the application was finished in August 2011. Nokia plans to take advantage of the success of the project, possibly implementing the innovative group forming method in later applications.
