Rich context information sharing in Facebook
1. Project in nutshell
This project implemented a Facebook application to display context information obtained from a mobile phone. The company partner, Nokia Research Center, provided us a software package that detects the user?s environment (e.g. car, restaurant, street) and activity (e.g.
idle, running, walking). The mobile application transmits this information to Facebook, and a Facebook application displays the information in an entertaining and interesting way.
2. What did we learn?
The project was an interesting experience for most of us, we had the opportunity to work on a real project within a controlled environment, without the risks and necessary time commitments involved in real life projects.
We all have learned something from all those months working together, whether it was a new technology like Qt or the Facebook API, a new version control tool like Git, or just new insights into how to tailor an efficient software development workflow.
4. What was best thing?
Getting the highest reward from the client (15000 EUR!)
5. Customers comments
1) The members of the project team came up and implemented a considerable number of new ideas to improve the solution. The group acted autonomously, requiring rather light guidance from the customer.
2) For the mobile client, the group made a Qt-based implementation running at least on three different phone models, which was more than was required by the customer.
3) The Web application exceeded the customer expectations. The team came up and implemented new views, and made the application great looking visually.
4) A generic API was implemented for the server as an additional feature.
5) Customer has been sucessfully using the solution in internal demonstrations receiving good feedback.
6) In-depth user evaluations provided valuable insight to the potential business potential and further development needs of the solution.
