Visual runner

We are developing a running technique analysis tool. We need a simple and desciptive, easy to adopt way to visualize how a person is running. The ideal implementation shows an animated running figure which can be parameterized in various ways. The anatomy and physiological limitations of human body should be as close to real as possible. The physique model and the running algorithm combined needs special attention. Within this project the team can also study and model the most common mistakes and faults in running techinique.

Possible features:

  • possibility to change the proportions of the figure (lenght, torso length, leg lenght etc)
  • possibility to change the step rate, stride lenght (askelpituus), ground contact time as well as ground hit position
  • possibility to change angles of ancle, knee and torso during steps
  • the animation should follow dynamic input i.e. the data to control the figure might come from a file or as http commands
  • the solution might have predefined models for simple faults in techinique like over pronation, supination, heel strike, duck style etc
  • a way to highlight deviations from ”perfect” techique
  • a zooming and slow motion capability to details in model

Technology used:

  • the animation must run on web server and as standalone on pc
  • preferred implementation is flash or HTML5 or similar

Talents:

  • Capable web programmer with understanding of the dymanic content
  • Animation specialist (3D modeling a bonus)
  • Understanding of human physiology and running
