Project 135: Stareyes

"If practicing guitar was as much fun as playing a computer game, I would be a Rockstar!"

StarEyes is a Tampere based project with the goal is to develop a computer game that is played with a real music instrument as controller. The idea is to motivate beginners with a computer game to practice on their guitars even through the first guitar exercises are very boring. In other words, the user does not play the game to get better on the guitar, but rather because the game is fun. That the guitar skills improve at the same time is a nice and of course wanted "side effect".

Project Goal

The project's goal is to implement fully working guitar learning game demo that is usable with a standard computer, and possibly mobile devices. The demo will be used to conduct user testing and to showcase and prove the feasibility of the StarEyes idea.

The audio signal processing technology has been developed already, which means that the interface between the instrument and the computer is given. Therefore, the job of the project group is to use this technology and implement game mechanics, story and visualization of the game. While this all sounds like "Guitar Hero for real guitar", the story-line and apparel of the game should be funny, happy and not too serious (e.g. not rock-star related).
