Metso is a global supplier of technology and services for the mining, construction, power generation, oil and gas, recycling, and pulp and paper industries. We are truly global – we have engineering, production, procurements, services business, sales and other operations in over 300 units in more than 50 countries. Today 45 percent of our net sales come from the services business.
Based on our business, manuals and process information are vital for us and our customers. But where is the manual when user needs it and how could the user contribute to the manual as part of the global system?
Typical challenges for traditional ways of using manuals and process information includes:
- Users are moving out from the office and working also near manufacturing while travelling and at home. Their work is no longer place dependent.
- Interactive 3D models, real-time data streams (video / web-cams) are available but not much used
- Information in printed or even on-line manuals is often static.
- This information usually changes over time. The changes are not always due to manufacturer actions rather due to user and user environment.
- Vital information should be more visible for all users and users should be able to change information content and value.
- Based on their own needs, the user community should be able to develop the manuals further.
